Hello and welcome to Stix FTW. Stix FTW is a blog written by me, Steve Schulz. Previously, I wrote and maintained the WoW blog Lume the Mad. However, since quitting WoW, I’ve decided to write a general gaming blog. And—surprise!—that’s what this is!

What Sort of Content Will Stix FTW Have?

Stix FTW will have articles about gaming and the games I’m playing. Initially, I’ll be focusing on PC gaming, since I play almost exclusively on the PC. I may add a focus on consoles somewhere down the road, but I make no promises.

The types of articles I write will be the types I want to write. This means I’ll be writing about anything that comes to mind. However, to maintain the blog’s consistency, there will be some recurring types of entries. These are as follows:

  • News articles. While I will not be reporting every major piece of news (that’s what the major sites are for), I will utilize my free time to write about the news I find important or interesting. However, as a personal blog, this means most news entries posted on the blog will have my commentary added, unless I want the news to speak for itself.
  • Criticism. Typically, my commentary about a game will be written like something you’d see from a film critic outside of what you’d see in the newspaper. Something like a treatise on the importance of Citizen Kane in cinematic history. Or, to use a gaming example, the embodiment of pseudo-ideals in Half-Life‘s Gordon Freeman. Of course, I will likely end up writing some traditional reviews, as well.
  • Essays. I can pretty much repeat something I’ve already said for this category. “I’ll be writing about virtually anything that comes to mind” in my essays (shorter essays I’ll simply call “thoughts”).

I may post some previews and trailers, but I’m not sure how regular these will be, so I won’t give them a fancy bullet.

If the audience ever grows enough, or grows at all, I may also do some interviews, if I can manage to score them. But I predict they would mostly be small-time, with approachable people like pro gamers and art designers. Somehow I don’t think John Smedley would allow an indie blogger to strap him to a chair and interrogate him about the next EverQuest expansion. Not that I would care to, anyway.

Finally, I will do videos here and there, using them to augment articles, or as the sole content for an entry.

My Goals

My initial goals for the blog are pretty simple:

  1. Update as frequently as I can.
  2. Use some humor.
  3. Be insightful, when serious.
  4. Improve my writing skills.
It’s too early to commit to any other goals. Because I am arguably human, and my success is not guaranteed, they shouldn’t be too lofty.

Let’s Roll

Without further ado, let’s get this show on the road!
